Our Maternity Pads are high-absorbency sanitary pads designed for postpartum bleeding. Soft, extra long with wings and individually wrapped, they are suitable for moderate flow once the heaviest phase of postpartum bleeding has passed, typically from around week 2 onwards. An essential addition to your hospital bag alongside the Brief-Style Maternity Pads for the heaviest early days.

Every postpartum journey involves lochia, the bleeding and discharge that follows birth for several weeks. Standard maternity pads are designed for the moderate and lighter phases, when a brief-style all-in-one pad is no longer needed but flow is still heavier than a regular period pad can comfortably handle. For the first 24 -72 hours of very heavy postpartum bleeding, our Brief-Style Maternity Pads provide greater coverage and leak protection.

Features

  • Standard sanitary pad design; long, soft and highly absorbent  with wings for postpartum flow
  • Soft, skin-friendly top sheet gentle on postpartum skin and perineal stitches
  • Individually wrapped for hygiene and hospital bag convenience
  • Suitable for use with perineal spray applied directly to the pad for added comfort

When to Use Standard vs Brief-Style Pads

  • Days 1 - 7 (heavy flow): Brief-Style Maternity Pads provide the most secure, comfortable protection for the heaviest postpartum bleeding
  • Weeks 2 - 4 (moderate flow): Regular Maternity Pads as flow becomes more manageable and brief-style pads are no longer needed
  • Weeks 4 - 6 (light flow): Transition to standard period pads or liners as lochia lightens to a period-like flow

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between maternity pads and regular period pads?

Maternity pads are longer, softer and more absorbent than standard period pads to accommodate the heavier postpartum bleeding (lochia) that follows birth. They are also designed without the dry-weave or perfumed surfaces found in many regular period pads, which can irritate sensitive postpartum skin and perineal stitches.

Can I spray the perineal spray directly onto the maternity pad?

Yes. Spraying our Perineal Spray onto the pad before wearing adds a layer of soothing herbal comfort against the perineal area. You can also soak the pad in perineal spray or witch hazel and freeze it to make a padsicle for cold relief in the first days after birth.

How many maternity pads will I need?

Pack 10–15 standard maternity pads in your hospital bag in addition to Brief-Style Pads for the heaviest first days. Have additional packs available at home for weeks 2 - 4. Most women use maternity pads for approximately 2 - 4 weeks before transitioning to regular period pads.
